As Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy Strategy, Benjamin J. Wallner joined Shadwell in 2025, bringing over two decades of expertise in healthcare policy and legislative advocacy. Prior to this, he was a senior executive at the American Podiatric Medical Association, where he led the most successful legislative efforts in the organization’s history, significantly advancing the recognition and career opportunities of podiatric physicians.

Born and raised in New Ulm, Minnesota, Benjamin’s passion for healthcare policy stemmed from personal experience. After losing his cousin, who aspired to be a radiography technician, he pursued a career in healthcare, becoming a certified EMT. Realizing his strengths lay in policy rather than direct care, he transitioned into politics, where he could shape healthcare legislation on a broader scale.

Benjamin has played a pivotal role in national healthcare policy, securing legislative victories that have benefited providers and patients alike. A defining achievement in his career was successfully advocating for provisions in the MISSION Act, which redefined podiatrists’ roles within the Department of Veterans Affairs, expanding their career advancement opportunities. His leadership earned him induction into the Podiatry Hall of Fame and several prestigious awards, including the Kennison Award and the Chairman’s Award.
His leadership style blends servant, transformational, and pacesetting approaches, emphasizing mentorship, adaptability, and long-term relationship-building. He believes that sustainable policy change is rooted in trust and collaboration with stakeholders and policymakers. Throughout his career, he has led strategic initiatives, expanded grassroots advocacy, and managed over $500,000 in annual political action contributions, strengthening engagement and influence in healthcare policy.
Beyond his professional achievements, Benjamin enjoys baking for friends and family, a reflection of his meticulous attention to detail and love for bringing people together. Married and residing in Burtonsville, Maryland, he remains dedicated to leaving a lasting impact on healthcare policy.
